Food For Thought:

As a consultant for paint colors and fixed finishes I have the opportunity to engage in many conversations with homeowner’s.   Often times, these conversations come after an exhaustive and disappointing search for a resale home, many of which, are newly renovated.  Our conversation usually goes something like this, “The combinations that people use for tile, flooring, countertops, paint colors are awful.” “The choices lack cohesion or any type of connectedness relating to color, undertones, texture, and many times too many patterns are used in one room.”  “What is it with all the houses that are cold and gray with black and the trendy barn door thing made out of busy looking wood that relates to nothing?” From the people I speak with, if money were no object, would have purchased due to great location and neighborhood but honestly, would end up taking everything out and starting over! What a shame it is when it could have easily been done right in the first place instead of wrong, if they knew how to go about it.

Listen folks, the gray trend has been over for at least 5 years. “Stop.With.The.Gray.”  

Another item that deserves mentioning is the removal of walls between primary and social gathering rooms.  There is a time and place for it, however, open concept became a trend several years ago, this trend has past and homeowners now crave the ability to have their privacy.
